2009 Match Summaries
Esperanza March 3
Oilers edged by Esperanza in 5 Tuesday night. HBHS battled back from a 2-0 deficit, but could not complete the comeback. Game scores were 25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 22-25, 15-11.
Fountain Valley March 10
Huntington Beach downs Fountain Valley in 4 games. On Tuesday March 10, the Oilers defeated the Barons 23-25, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23. Kyle Bailey led the Oilers with 14 kills while Charlie Condron added 16 digs.
Corona del Mar March 11
Oilers unable to stop Corona Del Mar. Huntington fell to the Sea Kings in 4, 25-19, 25-20, 27-29 and 25-22. Freshman Kyle Bailey notched 13 kills while Juniors Eric Bartlett and Tyler Kulakowski each had 10. Charlie Condron chipped in with 17 digs.
Newport Harbor March 17
#9 Huntington Beach downs #3 Newport Harbor. The Oilers upset the Sailors Tuesday night by scores of 26-24, 17-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-12 at Newport Harbor High. Nick Siegle paced the Oilers with 14 kills. Eric Bartlett had 12 kills and 6 digs, while Libero Charlie Condron added 21 digs.
Edison March 24
#8 Oilers defeat #6 Edison. The Oilers got revenge for a loss to the Chargers at the OC Championships with a 25-14, 22-25, 25-18 and 25-20 victory at Edison Tuesday night. Middle blocker Tyler Kulakowski led the Oilers with 11 kills and 3 blocks while outside hitter Eric Bartlett added 7 kills and 2 aces.
Trabuco Hills March 26
Oilers sweep Trabuco Hills to open league play. Huntington Beach defeated the Mustangs 25-23, 25-9 and 25-17 Thursday night. Tyler Kulakowski had 9 kills out of the middle and Eric Bartlett added 8 from the outside. Zach Kimber dished out 28 assists and Libero Charlie Condron tallied 12 digs. (Click for OC Varsity Article)
Northwood March 31
Oilers defeat Northwood in 3, 25-11, 25-19 and 25-22. Nick Iorfino led Huntington with 13 kills while Kyle Bailey added 9. Eric Bartlett and Tyler Kulakowski both finished with 8. Libero Charlie Condron contributed 9 digs and Kory Newton had 15 assists.
El Toro April 2
Oilers move to 3-0 in Sea View League with a sweep of El Toro 25-13, 25-16 and 25-18. Nick Iorfino led Huntington with 16 kills while Tyler Kulakowski added 11. Rob McKinley had 8 kills and 4 blocks. Zach Kimber added 49 assists.
Foothill April 15
Huntington Beach falls to Foothill in 4 (23-25, 25-20, 26-24 and 25-15). Tyler Kulakowski had 10 kills for the Oilers while Rob McKinley added 9. Charlie Condron had 10 digs and Zach Kimber dished out 38 assists.
Woodbridge April 21
Oilers sweep Woodbridge 25-20, 25-15, 25-20 to move to 4-1 in the Sea View League. Nick Iorfino led Huntington with 7 kills and 3 digs. Tyler Kulakowski and Nick Siegle both added 6 kills and Eric Bartlett had 4. Middle Blocker Rob McKinley had 2 key blocks and an ace. Libero Charlie Condron had 11 digs while setters Zach Kimber and Kory Newton combined for 31 assists.
Trabuco Hills April 22
Huntington over Trabuco Hills in 3 by scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-15. Nick Siegle led the Oilers with 13 kills and middle blockers Rob McKinley and Tyler Kulakowski added 7 and 5. Outside Hitters Eric Bartlett and Kyle Bailey each had 5 kills. Charlie Condron had 5 digs (and a kill at Outside Hitter) while Dylan Higginson added 5 digs playing Libero in the last game. Dylan Heyden and Alex Nordin each added a kill to round out the Oiler's attack Setters Zach Kimber and Kory Newton combined for 40 assists.
Northwood April 28
Oilers sweep Timberwolves at Northwood. Nick Siegle (9 kills/2 blocks), Tyler Kulakowski (8/3) and Rob McKinley (7/1) paced the Oilers in the 25-14, 25-15, 25-15 victory. Outside hitters Eric Bartlett and Nick Iorfino combined for 10 kills. Charlie Condron added 9 digs. Kyle Bailey (2 kills), Alex Nordin (1 kill and 1 ace), Dylan Higginson (1 ace) and Grant Mason (1 kill at match point) all contributed to the win.
El Toro April 30
Oilers prevail over El Toro on Senior Night in 4 games. Four Oilers had double-digit kills (Siegle, Bartlett, Kulakowski and Iorfino). Senior Rob McKinley added 5 kills, 2 blocks one ace and one dig. Coach Pazanti started an all-senior lineup including Dylan Heyden (1 kill), Alex Nordin (1 kill and 2 digs), Grant Mason and Dylan Higginson (2 digs). However, the Oilers were unable to hold on to a lead, losing the first game 26-24. The Oilers took the next 3 games by scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-20. Charlie Condron had 18 digs and Zach Kimber added 50 assists. The win moves the Oilers to 7-1 in league play.
Oilers defeat Foothill in 5 to share League lead. Middle blocker Tyler Kulakowski led the Oilers with 14 kills and 8 blocks. Rob McKinley added to Huntington's middle attack with 7 kills. Setter Zach Kimber (55 assists and 3 digs) spread the ball around and kept everyone involved. Opposite hitter Nick Siegle had 11 kills and one block. Outside hitters Nick Iorfino (10 kills and 3 blocks) and Eric Bartlett (8/1) played key roles in the win. Charlie Condron added 28 digs for the Oilers. Oilers win to secure first place league tie. Huntington swept Woodbridge by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-22. Kyle Bailey and Tyler Kulakowski had 10 kills apiece to lead the Oilers. Alex Nordin added 8 at outside hitter. Kory Newton (25 assists) and Zach Kimber (12) split the setting duties. Libero Charlie Condron chipped in 14 digs.
Oilers advance to second round in CIF. Huntington Beach defeated Beckman in 4 games, 25-23, 25-17, 24-26 and 25-12 on Friday night. The Oilers' outside attack of Nick Siegle (18), Eric Bartlett (13) and Nick Iorfino (12) combined for 43 kills in the match. Middle Blockers Tyler Kulakowski (10 kills/3 blocks) and Rob McKinley (5/3) rounded out the scoring.. Libero Charlie Condron added 20 digs. Huntington advances to the second round for the third year in a row and will play next at Mira Costa.
Huntington loses in 3 to Mira Costa. The oilers lost a hard-fought second round CIF match in Manhattan Beach 25-22, 25-13, 25-23.
