Oilers take 2nd place in Redondo Beach Tournament

The Huntington Beach Oilers took second place in the Redondo Beach Pre-Season Volleyball Tournament the weekend of March 6-7, falling in the final to Esperanza 30-28, 25-17 and 25-19. 

On Friday afternoon, the Oilers took on Bishop Montgomery.  HBHS won in 3 games 25-22, 25-17 and 25-20.  Friday evening, the Oilers played Quartz Hill and won in a 5 game marathon.  The final scores were 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 20-25 and 18-16.

 Saturday found the Oilers in the semi-finals against Palos Verdes High School.  Huntington Beach emerged victorious over PVHS in 3, 25-21, 25-18 and 26-24.

 In the final match the Oilers took on Esperanza.  The Aztecs gained momentum after winning the first game 30-28. Huntington was unable to mount a comeback and dropped the remaining games 25-17 and 25-19.

The Oilers next take on former Sunset League foe Fountain Valley High School on Tuesday March 10th at Huntington Beach High School.  Frosh/Soph and JV begin at 4:30 pm with the varsity match following.

 

Charlie Condron and Tyler Kulakowski receive all-tournament honors

 

Congratulations to senior libero Charlie Condron and junior middle blocker Tyler Kulakowski who were both named to the all-tournament team at the Redondo Beach Pre-Season tournament.
